Second Saturday

Second Saturday comes alive!
2nd Saturday in Collingswood is getting a whole new spin. Check out the revamped event! Each month will bring something new to Haddon Ave. Look forward to monthly themes that include weddings, fashion and even Mardi Gras! Do not miss the decked out Downtown with art, food and even more to offer. And as always, the event is free!
The event was created to expose local and regional artists to the many residents and visitors of Collingswood and the surrounding area. Visitors can plan a night on the town and browse the many participating venues including studios, galleries, coffee houses, retail shops and many unexpected spaces. More than 30 retail shops are extending their evening hours.
In addition to the traditional categories of art and music, a variety of craft and food demonstrations will also await 2nd Saturday visitors. From furniture making to jewelry design, there’s something for everyone. Please visit us on Facebook for current information on participating artists, monthly themes and promotions.
SCHEDULED FOR JULY 2009
Arts Plus Gallery, 704 Haddon Avenue - Artwork by Kendra Desimone.
Meet the artist 5-9. Music by Bryan Williams. Refreshments Served.
Grooveground, 647 Haddon Avenue - Inside: Fragments - Art of EJ Karetny. "The works featured here are all salvaged from one single larger painting. These paintings are neither resurrections nor reconstructions. Consider them postcards, pictures of another place and from another place. In these works, I revisit memories and re-present them; not only the memories of creating the original work, but also the memories of the original inspiration. These pictures reflect the modern strategy: reduce, recycle & reuse. At this scale, the viewer can take in a whole vista. Now the memories, and the works, are more focused and refined. How revised both are remains another story." Outside: Music of Canadian Invasion starting at 7 pm.

How to paticipate
We are always accepting new artists, crafters and musicians. 2nd Saturday is a great way to show your work, comission-free and in a fantasic street fair atmosphere. Download the application at the bottom of the page or e-mail Second Saturday.
For Artsts: Each artist is responsible for easels, tables, chairs, equipment and for setting-up their stations for most locations. Locations are available outside most stores, restaurants and public buildings with the exception of some winter months and inclement weather. We can not accomodate tents at this time. If you require to be indoors, please let us know.
For Musicians: Music performances are a very popular part of the 2nd Saturday event. This is a great way for upcoming groups and musicians to gain exposure. At this time music performances are non-paying. Some venues may arrange a stipend or tip at their discretion. You are encouraged to leave a tip jar, which has been very successful for most musicians. In addition to event advertising, we ask all artists and musicians to invite friends, family and art-lovers to come out! We can provide you with a copy of Collingswood's e-mail blast for you to forward along.
Procedure
1] Fill out the 2nd Saturday Form and email or fax to the numbers at the bottom of the sheet. We accept forms at any time.
2] You will receive notification on receiving your registration form. If we have an open venue that would best suit your art, we will give you the contact name, number, and address of the venue you are placed.
3] You should then contact your venue to discuss the logistics for your visit. Once everything is arranged, please contact us and let us know.
4] Please e-mail us your artist statement, small summary of your work and any high resolution photography of your artwork or band for use in press and advertising.
5] Then spread the word! Let your friends, family and fans know of your participation in the event!
History
2nd Saturday was started by a collection of store owners that had an interest in promoting the arts in Collingswood. This monthly arts event, now under the umbrella of Collingswood Partners, Inc., has turned into one of the more popular town events and grows every month with new artists and participating store locations.
The first event in April of 2004 started off with 15 store locations participating. Now you'll find an average of 20-30 locations each month.
