The 2008 Book Festival date is set: Saturday, October 4, 2008. Now volunteers are needed to help plan this exciting annual event on Haddon Avenue. We welcome book lovers to join us at the Collingswood Library on Wednesday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. for our first Book Festival planning meeting. The informal get together will be held in the children’s library on the second floor.

  Collingswood Rotary’s Beef and Beer fundraiser will directly benefit the kids of Collingswood! Bring your friends to the Beef & Beer Final Four Fun Night at the Collingswood Community Center on Friday, April 4 from 7 to 11 p.m. In addition to dinner and adult beverages, there will be games, races, contests and a 50-50. All proceeds benefit the construction of the new playground at Knight Park.

House of Clay’s new non-profit therapeutic clay agency, Say it with Clay, will hold its first fund raising event on April 5 from 10 to 5 p.m. The fundraiser, which takes place at House of Clay (644 Atlantic Ave, Collingswood) is a mask making event in which guests create and paint masks out of clay. Creators can then purchase it on the spot or donate it. Donations will be displayed stores on Haddon Avenue for sale throughout the month of May.

Commissioner Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 PM at the Community Center. If the first Monday falls on a holiday, the meeting will be held on the next day.

St.John’s PTA will hold its annual Chinese Auction on April 11 at St. John school (100 Leees Ave). The event is a lively evening of fabulous prizes and food to benefit Catholic education and the largest fundraiser of the year. Admission is $10 and includes food and beverages. The event is BYO.

“Where Rivers Run” concert is a theatrical-like performance of a classical rock symphonic genre. Supported by riveting visual effects and performers, the show will touch your every emotion. E. Rick Rinaldi and five highly skilled musicians and vocalists produce the sound of a full orchestra with a delivery that climbs deep into the heart, and will not let go.

The Borough is sponsoring a program to reduce the waste stream and help handle garbage natrually! Residents can pick up an Earth Machine compost bin for just $10 (retailed at $80) and attend a half hour composting class taking place all day on Sunday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Collingswood Community Center - guests can stop in any time that is convenient for them.

Please join the Collingswood Shakespeare Company, Inc. in its inaugural Coffee and Shakespeare Discussion Series. The first series--It's Good to be the King!--focuses on four plays that explore the consequences of the usurpation of power and authority: Macbeth, Richard II, Richard III, and The Tempest. All discussions will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in the Peter Childs Meeting Room at the Collingswood Public Library, 771 Haddon Avenue, Collingswood. Refreshments will be served.

Grab your biggest buckets of popcorn! Collingswood Cinema Club will present the film Singing in the Rain on Thursday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the historic, 1,000 seat Scottish Rite Theatre in Collingswood. The cinema club is a group of film lovers who enjoy watching classic films on the big screen. Each month through June will feature a different film. Coming to the big screen in Collingswood:

"Enchanted Sleeping Beauty" is being performed by the Collingswood Youth Theatre, sponsored by the Borough of Collingswood, on Friday, April 25 and Saturday April 26 at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday April 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Theatre (315 White Horse Pike). Tickets are $6 and are available at the door. This show is being directed by Mrs. Patricia Benesch and Mrs. Annemarie Dunn, and has a cast of 68 students in grades three through six.

Collingswood will host a special waste collection on April 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Collingswood public works complex (713 N. Atlantic Avenue). Clear the garage of old paint cans and fuels and help the earth by making sure it’s disposed of properly. There are separate recycling events for computers and electronics.
