Curbside Tree Maintenance/Shade Tree Advisory Board

The Department of Public Works (in cooperation with The Shade Tree Advisory Board of the Borough of Collingswood) provides a comprehensive curbside tree maintenance program. Our certified staff routinely inspects, evaluates, and maintains curbside trees.

The Shade Tree Advisory Board of the Borough of Collingswood manages curbside tree planting, pruning and maintenance.  Contact The Shade Tree Advisory Board to report a concern regarding the health of your curbside tree.  Tree officials will inspect and evaluate the situation and it will be handled on a priority basis.
You can also request to have a tree planted on your curbside or request to schedule a planting project for your block. The Shade Tree Advisory Board of the Borough of Collingswood meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at 5:30pm at the Collingswood Library (or on site).

Collingswood’s curbside trees, trees located in public parks and trees located on public property are protected by Borough ordinance. Excerpts from the Borough of Collingswood’s code - Chapter 283: Trees
§ 283-5 Trees on curbside, public property and in public parks. [Amended 12-1-2008 by Ord. No. 1457]
A.   No person(s) is permitted to trim, top or remove any limbs, trunks, branches or roots of any curbside tree, a tree located in a public park or a tree located on public property.
B.   No person(s) is permitted to nail, tack or staple any sign or notices into any limbs, trunks, branches or roots of any curbside tree, a tree located in a public park or a tree on public property.

§ 283-8 Planting of trees.
No tree should be planted in the curbstrip of the borough's easement without prior approval from the Shade Tree Advisory Board.

The Borough of Collingswood is highly interested in maintaining the beauty of its tree-lined streets by protecting the roots during concrete repair. Borough ordinances require that every effort be made to completely protect the roots of trees.
