Collingswood Goes Pink
![]()
An estimated 178,480 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in American women in 2007 alone. To help bring awareness to breast cancer, Collingswood will be going pink throughout the town!
During the entire month of October, Collingswood will help promote awareness and raise money to help find a cure for breast cancer in conjunction with the Philadelphia affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. To show town-wide unity, Haddon and Collings Avenues will be lit in pink festival lights and pink lighting gels will be placed on the lights of large buildings to cast a pink glow.
The entire town will be decked out in pink with 14-inch pink bows for $10 and smaller 10-inch bows for $7 available from Kenmac Florist. All proceeds benefit the Komen Foundation. Purchase them at Borough Hall or Kenmac's to put on your windows, trees, porches and anywhere else to show your support.
Residents, merchants and guests can get involved in one of the many ‘Are you Pink?’ opportunities throughout town. Visit your favorite stores and restaurants to see how they are supporting the cause – merchants are contributing in their own way. Restaurants may offer discounts and special entrees, stores and services may offer products and percentages of purchases donated to the Komen foundation. For a complete list of participants see below.
You can purchase a Lean Cuisine lunch bag for $10 that shows your support – the insulated bags come in three designs. Purchase one at Borough Hall and half of all proceeds will benefit the Komen Foundation.
There will be events to promote awareness all month. The book festival on Oct. 6 will have a table dedicated to breast cancer awareness with information and handouts. Perkins Center for the Arts will host the exhibit Pink at Perkins - The Contradictory Character of a Complex Color starting Oct. 13, which examines complexity of the highly charged color. Second Saturday – also on Oct. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. – will be lit up pink and showcase all the regular artwork and entertainment that accompanies the monthly event. October’s Cruise night on Oct.18 from 6 to 9 p.m. will be both ladies’ night and dedicated to breast cancer awareness with specials. Girls will pick the best classic cars and motorcycles and pink definitely has an advantage.
Oct. 25 will bring fundraising efforts along with laughs for Applause for a Cause. Ticket sales of the inaugural performance of the Excelsior Theater Company of “Nunsense” will go to Komen. Enjoy refreshments and fun while contributing. Even the nuns will be decked out in pink to show their support!
Collingswood will even think pink when it comes to candies and ghosts this Halloween to show support. Think pink when you shop and dine and purchase gifts for loved ones. At the end of the month the totals raised from town wide efforts will be collected and sent to the Philadelphia affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
