Baseball: The Essence of Life in the Universe

Opening Day of Little League has always been one of the great days in town.  It’s always a great scene with all the youngsters anxious to get the season underway, coaches ready with detailed game plans and everybody ready for a summer full of hot dogs, the smell of leather and the crack of a solid base hit. It’s a rite of passage and our volunteers make it a special occasion. Hats off to all the parents who make Opening Day, and the entire season, a collection of great memories.

My first Opening Day was in 1986 when our Michael started t-ball. We went through every level with both our boys, won a couple championships, coached a couple winless seasons, but always had a blast. Just in case parents are becoming tired at the prospect of all those games to come this year, know that our 1986 t-baller is still playing with a Philly hardball league. I’ve blocked some time in a couple weeks to go see him play at Citizens Bank Park. Of course, now he has a son and we’re just a few years away from heading back to the Little League fields to see our grandson. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Have a safe, great season!
