Collingswood, New Jersey

May Fair and Memorial Day

For the 30th year, our Borough’s May Fair started the summer season for all the non-shore folks. And there are thousands of them. Run by a dedicated group of volunteers who work all year, the granddaddy of our region’s street fairs brings over 40,000 people to town for arts, crafts, great food and just plain old family fun. It is a signature event for our town.

A special thanks to Jerry Chambers who has served on the May Fair every one of the 30 years. (And it is really amazing since he started when he was 35!)

And this street festival’s celebration every Memorial Day weekend is one of the greatest remembrances of our men and women in uniform that we can do: we celebrate the best of small town America. What happens at Collingswood’s May Fair is all American: family, community and neighborliness in a celebration of all things good.

So hats off to the volunteers who make the day possible and to all those who come out to celebrate all that make us a great town in this country.  And take a moment to remember those whose names remain on our Service Honor Roll and on the War Monuments. It is because of the sacrifices they and their families have made that we can enjoy days with May Fairs.
