Some Infrastructure Money

At our last Town Forum, we were asked what we are doing to ensure we get a share of the stimulus money we have all read about. Well turns out the stimulus hasn't worked quite like we were told.

About a year ago, we were requested by Federal and state representatives to quickly get them information about infrastructure and other development projects that were "shovel ready". We complied.

Our request was so big that NJN did a story on us. We attracted their interest because such a small town submitted such a big request.

So as the programs have come to life, and as the economic reaqlities have ravaged State government, the stimulus money has funded existing programs and projects rather than fund new projects. But we will be getting a project funded by the stimulus money.

Through the County, a $250,000 project will be funded to replace crosswalks along Haddon Avenue to make every one handicapped accessible. This project had been agreed to a couple of years ago by the County's Community Development Block Grant program, funded with Federal dollars, but there was inadequate funding to do the project. So now the stimulus dollars flow and this project will be underway soon.
