Jimmy Magee
We hope this past Holiday weekend was filled with the warmth of family and friends. The Tree Lighting and Parade were extraordinarily well attended in beautiful weather. It was spirited and great fun.
Unfortunately, I am writing to relay some tragic news and to ask your help. During the Parade, a member of the Polish American String Band collapsed on the Parade route at Collings Avenue and passed away. We do not know a lot about Jimmy Magee right now. We have been told he was a young man of 48 who had just recently retired from the Deptford Police force. He had sons who are firemen and lived in Cherry Hill.
After Jimmy was taken away by our Rescue squad, the String Band huddled together and dedicated their finish of the Parade to Jimmy. The crowd gave a huge cheer and they completed the Parade route.
Here's where I need your help. Please take a moment from your busy schedules and send a card, a note or an email along to Jimmy's family. I am asking you to send your thoughts and condolences along to the family and band.
The Commissioners and I were lucky enough to have the Polish American String Band lead us down Haddon Avenue and we were witness to the tragedy, and also to the strength of the love of the band members as they prayed for their brother and decided to march for him, doing their part to bring joy to our lives. Collingswood will always remember Jimmy Magee.
Please direct your notes, cards or condolences to the band, to be forwarded to the family at either of the following addresses:danmizner@polishamericanstringband.com
